The following list can help you find some pages that might be useful to you.

Some links:

North Bennet Street School   The best place to go if you want to learn binding, or want to become a book conservator.  The leading conservators all started out as binders.

Guild of Bookworkers   The national bookbinding organization.  Consists of a

national organization along with a collection of local chapters -- it has something

for everyone interested in books.

American Institute for Conservation   The main conservation group in this country.  Their web site has helpful information and is worth checking out.

Book Arts-L   An online discussion on bookbinding and related topics.

Kubb rules and history.  Just because it’s important to know.

Stiga table hockey school   If you come to Panther Peak it might be good to learn a few plays.  It’s the official varsity sport at the North Bennet Street School and is played at the bindery whenever an opportunity arises.  No trash talking allowed.

The photographs of the old books on this page were taken at the Borgå gymnasium in Finland, which I visited while in Sweden on my Fulbright. The Swedish-Finns call the town Borgå, while the Finnish-Finns call it Porvoo, and is one of the oldest towns in the country - 650 years old. The school is a Swedish Gymasium (sort of a high school) and has what is considered the second most important institutional library in Finland after the National Library. Their library was truly incredible! One of their many gems was a pamphlet published in Swedish by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia. Clicking on the photographs will take you to the school web site which, unfortunately, has no photographs of the library but does have a brief history of the school. It was just one of the many incredible places I visited in Finland during my year in Scandinavia.http://city.porvoo.fi/bogy/eng/frameset.html
