Panther Peak Bindery
Axel Knudsen (1912 - 2004) began his studies with August Sandgren in 1933. After Sandgren’s death in the following year he worked with Julie Simonsen finishing in 1937. He established his own bindery in 1942 and was at the same location until 1997, when it was taken over by the Esbjerg Kunstmuseum. These photos are a sampling of his work in binding and his own paste papers, where he used traditional techniques and printing from designs he engraved. His work in decorated papers was noted early on by Park and others, and rightfully so.
